First off, a reminder to everyone that you have until November 1 to register for the 2017-18 fall/winter swim season through our new ActiveWorks portal. This online resource will handle many of the upcoming functions for our swim team and we need everyone registered in that system before we can utilize it. If you missed the detailed email from September, you can find it in the News section of our team website.
Please be aware that meet information and sign up links are now posted for our next three competitions. The deadline for each of these events is Monday, October 23 by NOON and we will not be able to take late entries for these events, so please sign up in the Meets & Outings section of our team website ASAP!
There have been a few questions on swimsuit and team equipment orders and we apologize for any confusion. At the suit fitting in late September, many families inquired about ordering items the following week once they had time to discuss options with their swimmers, spouses, coaches, etc. To avoid individual shipping charges to each of the family that ordered items on site or within the following week, Augusta bundled all orders and shipped them here to the Swim Team office at our cost (and not yours). All items arrived at the end of last week and we are currently inventorying them now. Ideally since these items are meant to be ‘swim meet suits’ and/or non-urgent training equipment, we are going to bundle these items for you and have them available for pick up at the meet on October 28. If you ordered items but cannot attend the meet on October 28, then you will be contacted after the meet and your items will be delivered to your YMCA in November. We will also have the team t-shirts from last season bundled and available for pick up for any of our swimmers who have been waiting on the back order.
One of the things our swim team desperately needs more of is swim officials. We now have a unique opportunity bringing a national YMCA instructor to the Aquatic Center to train any interested YCF swim parents as a USA Swimming and YMCA swim official. This short clinic will happen on Saturday, October 21 from 8:00am-12:00pm at no cost to you and you can contact Robyn Anthony at email@example.com for more information. Also important to note is that working as a swim official DOES count towards your meet support/volunteer obligation and also includes additional perks like free meals at swim meets and specialized team apparel at select events! We hope you will consider this exciting option to enhance your child’s (and your own) swim meet experience.
And lastly speaking of the meet support/volunteer obligation, we are still working the bugs out of this new volunteer point tracking system in the Active site. As we discussed in the parent meetings, ideally we have maintained the same requirement from the past two years, (based on the average swimmer/home meet participation over the 12 month swim year), while also attempting to make volunteer opportunities more convenient and more accessible for people. The 10 volunteer points noted when you sign up through Active is intended to be a family MAX spread out over 12 months, yet the system currently reflects 10 points per swimmer, (which is not the intention and something that we are working on), nor does it take into consideration swimmers who don’t intend to participate a complete 12 months. Please know that we are working on both of these scenarios and will have an update before requesting our families to sign up to work the first big home meet of the year, the YCF Almost Turkey Invitational.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions and don’t forget to sign up for the October swim meets!
